Just like a waving flag

Share
So many wars, settling scores
Bringing us promises, leaving us poor
I heard them say, love is the way
Love is the answer, that’s what they say,
But look how they treat us, make us believers
We fight their battles, then they deceive us
Try to control us, they couldn’t hold us
Cause we just move forward like Buffalo Soldiers

More antiverbs

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, are also making nuclear weapons and controlling world's economy. Your move." (not) Benjamin Franklin

"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table made by cheap immigrant workers from south asia." (not) Martin Luther King Jr.

As opposed to proverbs. Goes like this:

"Give the man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to steal and you feed him for a lifetime."

"Only after the last tree has been cut down.
Only after the last river has been poisoned.
Only after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find out that babies are delicious."

Secure Cyberspace

Share
Some fifteen years ago internet was a bizzare novelty, gimicky and undefined. Today it is a complex machine, absolutely essential for modern world to operate. Millions of people send extremely sensitive personal information online daily, and I mean the kind of information that is usually stored in armored vaults.

Question: why the heck does the thing feel like the damn Wild West in terms of security? What the heck is with this stupid idea that a user is solely responsible for protecting his PC? In "real world", do we have to live in leaded underground bunkers to feel safe? Do we have to keep an arsenal of deadly weaponry hidden in our closets? Must we have elaborate traps on our doors? You can see where I'm going.
WHY, in this age, is the Internet STILL not throughtly regulated on government level? For security reasons, citizen of countries with "questionable" reputation need to go through a complicated process to be allowed to enter Canadian soil - then WHY THE HELL can the same people enter my country's cyberspace absolutely unimpeded? My neighbor would think twice before even TRYING to enter my appartment, even if it's unlocked. How come some korean jerk can attempt to infiltrate my PC without fear of any reprecussion?

No, I was not hacked, this is not why I'm writing this. It's just something to think about.

Pot Roast

Share
Family weekend looming and all, I decided to cook something unusual. At first I was thinking about trying to make proper plov. As much as I love that dish, I was always afraid of trying to actually make it, mostly I get lost in all the countless recipes for the "real" plov. Well, this time I was determined.
Unfortunately, at the last possible moment I remembered I need a kazan-type dish for plov, and I don't have anything even remotely resembling one. But, as a determination of hungry me is not so easily broken, I decided to finally try something I was hoping to try for a long time: pot roast.
Normally in my experience beef is a bitch to cook. Too little - and it feels slimy and ugh, too long - and it's rubber. That said, this thing ended up tender like baby's ass. No tenderizer, no marinating, no tricks - just two hours in the oven with very low heat and a little bit of water. Oh, and the water leftovers make an absolutely delicious gravy. Maybe next time I'll try to dress it up a little - maybe some onions, tomatoes, you know, good stuff.

Try it yourselves. It's very easy to make (a WoW player could do it lol) and it's delicious.Collapse )
